Notes:

Taylor Barton's SKINNY KAT follows hot on the heels of 1998's "Thoroughbred" and the Generic Blondes' "Mean American Dream". So it's the third effort by the attractive New Yorker already – again created with a substantial contribution by the one and only G.E.Smith – her husband. As a longtime leader of the "Saturday Night Live" houseband and former cohort of the everpresent Bob Dylan and blues legend Buddy Guy, G.E. must have been one of the most visible and renowned contemporary guitar players in recent years.

Taylor Barton – the name stands for intelligent singer-songwriter music and roots/pop with an attitude. This woman has a knack for maneuvering skillfully through the various styles of the genre. She knows how to create hook-laden midtempo tunes just as well as ballads that come from a sometimes sultry but always feminine perspective. On SKINNY KAT, her rocking "Thoroughbred" attitude has been replaced by an enticing and more low-key folk-pop sound. The album features great musical craftsmanship with subdued blues touches and tasteful guitar arrangements. Nice and rootsy additions of mandolin, violin, banjo and harp complete the picture. Everything is translated into action by a band that has grown into a strong unit within just a small number of years.
